The use of wind energy around the world has doubled in the past three years. This is a staggering and satisfying fact when you consider just how ingenious it is to take a common, unseen, and often unnoticed element of our lives and convert it into energy for our homes and accessories. EPI has taken advantage of new wind power technology in its playground equipment, and where the weather and terrain are conducive, a windmill can be added to educate students and augment power generation.
Just like fire, the sun is a very powerful source of heat energy to earth. Thechniques used to converting this solar energy into electricity have been growing at a rate of about 40% each year since 2000. EPI uses CIGS (Copper Indium Gallium Selenide) solar panels, which charge a portion of the EPI system to keep the battery from draining when school is on break. The solar panels can also be used as a tool for education children about energy transfer and green technology.
